ARTIST'S BIOGRAPHY :
Shirley Shepherd is primarily a self-taught artist who continues taking classes and workshops to constantly better her painting skills. Her original focus was oils but she has since acquired a real love for working in watercolor and all forms of watermedia, as in multimedia and collage work.
ARTIST'S STATEMENT
A native of West Virginia, this artist has resided in the state of Georgia for several years.
In 1995, Shirley was introduced to the world of watercolor and watermedia. These new techniques began the first of many transitions for this artist. She loves the boldness of color and fluidity which can be achieved in the use of watercolor and acrylics.
Ms. Shepherd's body of work includes traditional watercolor, as well as impressionistic techniques. Paintings include landscapes, flowers, and abstract realism utilizing watercolor, acrylics, watercolor pencil and crayon, as well as stained washi in the creation of watercolor/collage works. She also utilizes gesso and naturalistic components in the creation of some of her background textures. Her mentor and teacher in these watercolor techniques is Lynn Weisbach, a very talented Atlanta workshop instructor.
This artist truly enjoys creating new and exciting pieces, all designed to interact with the human spirit in all of us. She maintains a studio in her home where she is free to create to her heart's content.
